A fairytale retreat

Chateau du Pic is a fantasy home with views to dream of

Overlooking Najac, listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages, Chateau du Pic enjoys spectacular views across the Gorges de l’Aveyron in the Midi Pyrénées region. Built in the 19th century, it’s a picture of gracious classical design. With an elegant facade, grand terrace and prominent position, the chateau makes an impressive family home and also has the potential to become a prestigious upmarket hotel. There are luxurious features throughout, including marble flooring and fireplaces, stained glass windows and a fitted library. Reception rooms are spacious and airy, with an aspect bathed in sunlight for much of the day.

The chateau is accessed by a single gated drive, which gives the hilltop property an exceptionally private and secure position. The grounds include a swimming pool and pool house, plus two courtyard cottages, one lived in and the other ideal for further development. The remaining outbuildings offer potential for conversion. “Few properties have such a pedigree and this one really stands out from the crowd. It is also documented that it was the headquarters of the local resistance movement during the war,” reveals Joanna Leverett of Savills.

Sample the finest Chianti

Enjoy la dolce vita at Il Borgo - an affordable new development

With lush valleys dotted with vineyards, olive groves and cypresses it’s little wonder that the Chianti region of Tuscany held a seductive charm for writers including DH Lawrence, Henry James and Byron. The area has long been synonymous with high prices, but a new development is challenging that perception. Il Borgo is a community of 29 beautifully-designed residences all of which have a private balcony or terrace, internet connections and the services of an on-site manager. The development has been carefully designed to complement the surroundings and includes landscaped gardens and a swimming pool. Nearby the 17th-century Villa Bossi Pucci is being converted into a five-star boutique hotel.

This is the Tuscany of prized red wines and ripe pecorino cheeses, of fat porcini and tempting truffles. Medieval villages, including San Gimignano, top the verdant hillsides and invite you to explore them. The galleries, restaurants and shops of Florence and Siena are also just a short journey away.

Enjoy endless views at this beautiful penthouse on the Costa del Sol

This stunning duplex penthouse, within a hotel, is the largest residence in the port of Puerto Banus, the most sought-after address in Southern Spain, and offers 10,000 square feet of space. “It has a uniquely unobstructed view of the ocean on three sides and sunlight floods in all day,” says Alison Macpherson, Savills Associate Director.

Built within the hotel’s traditional exterior, the open-plan penthouse features clever use of mirrors to reflect the colours of the sea and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There are six terraces around the property and of the eight double bedrooms, seven have sea views. The private spa has a sauna, surround shower, plunge pool and massage area. Once the home of a rock star, this apartment epitomises glamour.

Buy a yachting berth and an apartment nearby for the perfect base

There is a global shortage of yachting berths, so new developments on the market featuring these offer prime investment potential, as well as the ideal base in a dream destination. Add to this the convenience of owning a luxury residence nearby and you have the perfect portfolio. Savills has a wide range of marina-led property developments in all of the major yachting areas. Many represent excellent value for money. If you’re searching for a European base, there’s Sotogrande, on the Costa del Sol, where apartments cost from £380,000, or Montenegro with coastal and mountain scenery, 240 days of sunshine a year and the exclusive new Saint Marko Island development, due for release in September 2008. Marina properties here will start at £700,000 and give access to some of the best sailing waters in the Med.
